ID Cards petition -- Massive Response!

UK National Identity Card (Design Mock-up)

There has been massive backing so far for the campaign to stop Tony Blair introducing ID Cards.

Liberal Democrats have collected hundreds of petition signatures against the scheme.

"When people realise the likely cost of the cards they can see that they will be an expensive flop," says Cllr Tom Stephenson.

"Introducing the cards could cost £10 billion. And we will each be charged more than £80 to have one!

"There are far better ways to tackle crime and improve security. Even Tony Blair admitted that a few years ago. But now he wants to take us back to a wartime measure that simply will not do the job it is supposed to do."

The law to introduce ID cards will give the Government vast new powers to collect personal information about us - in over 50 different categories.
