County Council to open Youth Offending Team office in the Lacemarket

6.23.35pm GMT Wed 10th May 2006

Nottinghamshire County Council intends to open an office for their Youth Offending Team somewhere in the Lacemarket (Bridge Ward) in the City of Nottingham. So far, they refuse to say exactly where this will be and they have not informed the City Council.

Councillor Saghir Akhtar (Lib Dem, Bridge Ward) said: "It is easy to understand that somewhere close to the city centre would be a convenient place for an office whose clients come from the surrounding suburbs. However, the precise location of the office is important - it should not be close to a residential area.

"I am concerned that the County Council has gone ahead with this plan without informing the City Council and Ward members. This is, to say the least, not polite, but it also prevents the City from helping them to find suitable premises."
