Nottingham crime - latest

At Nottingham City's Council Meeting on Monday Lib Dem Leader, Gary Long, accused Labour of a misleading the public over performance on crime.

He said "If Cllr Collins is trying to fool the public over some areas of poor performance in tackling crime that is bad enough. If he is fooling himself it is even worse. There are some clear problems that are not shown in the headlines of the report. If these are not recognised they will not be put right."

Liberal Democrats assert that in areas like reducing drug related crime and tackling peoples' fear of going out at night there are real problems. In these areas there is not enough progress being made, but the report suggests these areas are on target.

Cllr Long said "The figures behind the report do not back up the headline claims that things in these areas are going OK or well. There are other areas in the report - like reducing overall crime and increasing detections for the supply of class A drugs - where the report accepts things are not going well but does not set out an adequate action plan to put them right"
